Avatar is not a control. A meaningful avatar needs alt. A decorative avatar, next to a visible name, sets decorative and is hidden from assistive technology.
Do not use color as the only status cue. Pair Badge or StatusDot with text.
Interactive targets are Button or Link around the avatar, with their own accessible name.
