Typography

Text types, optical sizes, and font variables that control hierarchy across the product.

Typography is Text from @prepared911/ui/text plus the --text-<role>-* custom properties in @prepared911/ui/tokens.css. Each TextType applies the whole bundle: font, letter-spacing, and text wrap. Emphasis is a separate role, such as TextType.BodyLargeEmphasis, not a strong or medium prop. The heading element is as. The visual role does not pick h1–h6.
Titles
Page, section, and subsection roles are the large titles. Set as to the heading level the outline needs.
Title Page
TextType.Page · --text-title-page · 3.2rem · Medium · h1Page hero titles and primary headings.
Title Section
TextType.Section · --text-title-section · 2.4rem · Medium · h2Section headings within a page.
Title Subsection
TextType.Subsection · --text-title-subsection · 1.8rem · Medium · h3Subsection headings nested under a section.
Title Subtitle
TextType.Title · --text-title-subtitle · 1.6rem · Medium · h4Subheadings supporting a title or card header.
Body
Designed for multiple lines of text with comfortable line height for readability.
Body Large
TextType.Subtitle · --text-body-large · 1.4rem · RegularIntro copy and lead paragraphs.
Body Base
TextType.BodyLarge · --text-body-base · 1.3rem · RegularDefault paragraph text. The most commonly used text style.
Body Small
TextType.Caption · --text-body-small · 1.2rem · RegularSecondary copy and helper text.
Controls
Designed for single-line interactive contexts—labels, buttons, and metadata.
Label
TextType.Label · --text-label · 1.3rem · MediumForm labels aligned to input controls.
Button
TextType.Button · --text-button · 1.3rem · BoldButton label sizing. Only used within button components.
OVERLINE
TextType.Overline · --text-overline · 1.3rem · Bold · UppercaseSection overlines and category labels. Automatically uppercased.
Caption
TextType.Caption · --text-caption · 1.2rem · RegularTimestamps, hints, and tertiary metadata.
Monospace
For code snippets, terminal output, and technical content. Uses --font-geist-mono.
const specimen = 'Mono Medium'
TextType.Code1 · --text-mono-medium · 1.3rem · Regular · Geist MonoCode blocks and inline code mentions.
const specimen = 'Mono Small'
TextType.Code2 · --text-mono-small · 1.2rem · Regular · Geist MonoCompact code in tables, tooltips, and dense UI.
Optical sizes
Radix scaling defines --font-size-1 through --font-size-9. Product typography maps to semantic aliases so you reach for a role, not a step number.
TokenAliasComputed size
--font-size-1--text-body-small, --text-caption, --text-mono-small1.2rem
--font-size-2--text-body-base, --text-label, --text-button, --text-overline, --text-mono-medium1.3rem
--font-size-3--text-body-large1.4rem
--font-size-4--text-title-subtitle1.6rem
--font-size-5--text-title-subsection1.8rem
--font-size-6—2.0rem
--font-size-7--text-title-section2.4rem
--font-size-8--text-title-page3.2rem
--font-size-9—6.0rem
Families and weight
--font-geist powers UI copy; --font-geist-mono powers monospace. Three weight tokens let you add emphasis without relying on colour alone.
TokenValueWhen to use
--font-weight-normal400Default body text and captions
--font-weight-medium500Labels, titles, and interactive affordances
--font-weight-bold600Buttons, overlines, and strong emphasis
Pass strong for bold or medium for medium weight on any Text instance. Titles default to medium; body types default to regular.
Color variants
Text accepts a color prop via Foreground to express semantic meaning.
VariantTokenWhen to use
Foreground.Base--color-text-basePrimary content (default)
Foreground.Alt--color-text-altSecondary and supporting text
Foreground.Alt2--color-text-alt-2Tertiary metadata
Foreground.Disabled--color-text-disabledDisabled controls and inactive states
Foreground.Accentintent accentLinks and interactive highlights
Foreground.Infointent infoInformational callouts
Foreground.Successintent successPositive confirmations
Foreground.Warningintent warningCautionary messages
Foreground.Errorintent errorDestructive or error states
Usage expectations
  • Reach for TextType presets before composing font-size and weight manually.
  • Use titles (Display–Title) only for actual headings: they render semantic h1–h4 elements.
  • Pair BodySmall and Caption with Foreground.Alt for secondary content to establish clear hierarchy.
  • Reserve Overline for category labels and small section intros; it renders as uppercase by default.
  • Never skip heading levels: go Display → Heading → Subheading → Title.
