Queue

Usage

Queue is a disclosure section for work that is waiting: messages queued while an agent works, todos, pending tasks. The header carries an optional icon, a label and a tally; the entries sit beneath it. Callers pass the entries as data, and the component owns the layout.
When to use
  • A short list of entries that are waiting or finished, shown inside an AI conversation surface.
  • Entries a person may want to edit or remove before they run, through actions.
When not to use
  • A long, filterable or sortable list of records: use Table or DataTable.
  • Sections of different content that open and close together: use Accordion.
  • One optional region with its own heading: use Collapsible.
  • A transcript: use MessageList.
Look
Queue is flat: no border and no padding, so it sits inside a conversation without a frame. Collapsible, which it composes, draws a bordered card; Queue removes the border and padding in its own stylesheet.
The header
The whole header row is one button. It is named by the label and the tally, for example "Queued 4", and aria-expanded carries open or closed, so Queue takes no "Collapse" or "Expand" copy. The tally defaults to the number of entries. Pass count to show another number, such as the entries still to do. It is a number the caller owns, so it is not recounted from completed.
Entries
FieldUse
idStable identity; the React key.
contentThe entry. One line; longer text ends in an ellipsis, with the full text in the tooltip title.
descriptionA second line under the content, at the subtle tier.
completedA check replaces the dashed ring and the content is struck through. Pass completedLabel on the Queue too.
actionsIcon buttons for the entry, each with a glyph, a name and a handler.
Name each action for what it does to its subject when two entries share the same action ("Remove message"), so a screen reader list of buttons is not a wall of "Remove".
Actions
On a hover-capable fine pointer the actions are hidden until the row is hovered or has keyboard focus within, so a long queue does not read as a wall of buttons. They keep their space, so revealing them moves nothing. On touch they are always shown. Pressing an action runs its handler and never collapses the section.
Height
Without maxHeight the section grows with its entries. With maxHeight the entries stop at 96, 128 or 256px (QueueMaxHeight.Small, Medium, Large) and scroll. A list shorter than the cap takes its own height.
Open state
Uncontrolled by default and open. Pass defaultOpen={false} to start collapsed, or open and onOpenChange to control it. onOpenChange(open, details) is cancelable.
Not included
Reordering, selection, per-entry progress, an entry onClick, and markdown in an entry.
